Sobre este evento

Prague trades its gothic gloom for a high-tech glow every October. Forget your average street fair. This is a massive, city-wide takeover where lasers and digital art colonize old stone facades. Since launching, it has become the country's biggest cultural draw. You'll find yourself wandering from the Vltava banks to hidden courtyards. You'll watch baroque buildings warp and melt. Most of it costs nothing. The streets turn into a massive gallery for four nights. But the experience doesn't stop at the pavement. If you want the weird, immersive stuff hidden in monastery refectories or old factories, buy the Signal INSIDE pass. You'll see the spires and facades of your dreams awash in 3D videomapping. Expect to rub shoulders with millions of locals. Grab a hot mulled wine from a street vendor and join the flow. The energy is purely electric. It completely reinvents the city you thought you knew. Whether you are under a projection at the Church of St. Ludmila or in a glowing park, the memories stick. Don't skip the indoor zones. They are worth every forint.

Historia

It all started with a clock. In 2010, producer Martin Pošta and The Macula collective lit up the Astronomical Clock for its 600th birthday. The crowd loved it. By 2013, the first full-scale festival drew 250,000 people over a single weekend. A decade later, five million visitors have seen the show. It’s grown far beyond the Old Town, swallowing neighborhoods from Karlín to Holešovice. It reached Vinohrady too. In 2024, the festival even secured Prague Castle for the first time. The route keeps expanding to find fresh canvas. Now, the Old Town Market Hall houses Signal Space. This permanent digital art gallery means the festival never really ends. It has evolved from a novel spectacle into the largest showcase of creative culture in the Czech Republic. The evolution continues every year.

The Programme

Signal Festival — The Programme

The show runs for four nights, from 19:00 until midnight. Darkness is the point. The lineup mixes old-school lighting with AI. It also features conceptual art and weird soundscapes. Themes change yearly. One year it was Ecosystems. This forces artists to tackle social issues through digital code. The heavy hitters are the signature videomapping shows. They map animations onto landmarks like the Church of St. Ludmila using powerful lasers. These loop every 15 minutes. This allows the crowds to cycle through without missing the story. You'll also find interactive pieces in parks that react when you walk past. Some respond to sound or touch. If you pay for Signal INSIDE, you get the immersive stuff in hidden architectural gems. These are sensory-rich environments built into spots you usually can't enter. And there is Signal FORUM for the tech nerds during the day. It blends art with science and technology. It's a deep dive into digital culture.

Key Venues

Signal Festival — Key Venues

The show has moved past just the Old Town. The Centrum route hits the classics. You'll see Old Town Square and Mariánské Square. The Municipal Library also gets lit up. Lately, they've added the Prague Castle Riding School. It’s a regal spot for digital experiments. But head to Vinohrady for a different feel. This neighborhood has charm. The Basilica of St. Ludmila at Náměstí Míru is the star here. Its twin neo-Gothic spires look like they’re twisting during the projections. It's pure sci-fi. Darker parks nearby hold atmospheric light structures. Look for laser webs. Don't ignore the industrial spots in Holešovice or Karlín. These raw factory floors offer a sharp contrast to the old city center. The permanent Signal Space inside the Old Town Market Hall is a new anchor for the festival. It's edgy. These cavernous venues reflect the diverse spirit of Prague architecture.

Highlights & Must-Sees

Signal Festival — Highlights & Must-Sees

Prioritize the grand videomapping. Standing in a crowd while a palace seems to crumble and rebuild is the core experience. Projections on the Archbishop's Palace or the Central City Library are legendary. The tech precision is staggering. You get hyper-modern 3D animation layered over ancient stone. Then there’s the Signal INSIDE gallery zone. It’s the best €15 you’ll spend. These spots use spatial audio and mirrors to mess with your head. Heavy fog adds to the confusion. They're usually inside quiet, old halls or monastery refectories. It’s also a good way to escape the cold October wind. Finally, play with the interactive art. Some pieces follow your movement or react to noise. A light grid might change color based on how loud the street is. These hubs are great for families. They make for brilliant photography. Grab a hot drink and dive into the glowing crowds. Let the energy wash over you. Don't just watch. Get involved.

Cómo llegar

Transporte público

Take Metro Line A (Green) to Staroměstská or Line B (Yellow) to Náměstí Republiky. Trams 2, 17, and 18 also stop at Staroměstská. For the Vinohrady route, use Metro Line A to Náměstí Míru.

En coche

Driving into the city center is strongly discouraged due to heavy pedestrian crowds and road closures. Use Park & Ride (P+R) facilities at Letňany (Line C) or Zličín (Line B) and take the metro in.

En taxi / VTC

Drop-offs directly at Old Town Square are restricted. Request to be dropped at Dvořákovo nábřeží or Náměstí Republiky. Expect to pay €15-€25 from outer districts using Liftago or Bolt.

Consejos

Consejos prácticos

1

Dress Warmly

Prague nights bite in October. Wear a heavy coat and scarf.

2

Pick a Path

The event splits between the Centre and Vinohrady. Do one per night. Don't try to see everything at once. You'll fail.

3

Buy the Pass

Free shows are great. But the indoor installations are better. Spend the €15 for the Signal Plus ticket.

4

Timing is Everything

Projections loop every 15 minutes. Show up five minutes past the hour. The first wave of people usually leaves then.

5

Eat on the Move

Look for trdelník stalls. Hot pastry and cold air go well together. Mulled wine is a must.
