Metropol Design Hotel Old Town

Architects Marek and Štěpán Chalupa designed this building to fill an old gap on Národní street. They didn't bother with fake history. Instead, they built a nine-story glass block. During the day, it's a giant mirror. At night, it glows like a lantern. It reflects the stone palaces and the red trams passing by. It's a bold choice for the line between Old Town and New Town. And it works. It shows that Czech architecture isn't stuck in the past.

The hotel sits in a modern corridor next to the 1970s Máj department store. This spot is now a gallery for David Černý. Look across the street to see the "Butterflies." These are huge Spitfire airplane bodies with mechanical wings. They sit on the Máj facade. The contrast is wild. Custom furniture keeps things tidy. You get RITUALS products in the bathroom. But the real draw is the view. Huge windows turn the Old Town skyline into your wallpaper.

The rooftop deck is a win in this crowded city. It’s higher than the nearby buildings. You get a full 360-degree look at Wenceslas Square and the red roofs of Old Town. Prague Castle sits on the horizon. Most hotels would charge a fortune for a seat here. But this place keeps it for guests only. It’s a private spot away from the crowds. There’s no overpriced bar.
