Danubius Hotel Gellért

The Danubius Hotel Gellért is inseparable from the legendary Gellért Thermal Bath — guests enjoy direct access to the Art Nouveau bathhouse that has drawn visitors since 1918. The hotel itself occupies the same grand building at the foot of Gellért Hill, its facade one of Budapest's most photographed landmarks when viewed from Liberty Bridge.

Rooms range from classic to renovated. The 'upgraded' rooms have been modernized with contemporary furnishings while retaining the original high ceilings and large windows — some offering Danube or Gellért Hill views. The unrenovated rooms are more dated but still comfortable, and significantly cheaper. For many guests, the room is secondary to the bath access — having the thermal pools available before breakfast and after dinner is the real luxury.

The hotel's Buda-side location offers a different perspective on Budapest. You're at the foot of Gellért Hill (walkable to the Citadella viewpoint), directly on the tram line that runs along the Danube, and a bridge-walk from the Central Market Hall. It's less frenetic than the Pest side, with a more residential, local feel.
