Electric Love Festival
Music Festival
About This Event
Welcome to the thunderous heart of the Austrian electronic scene. While the Electric Love Festival (ELF) technically requires a 2.5-hour hop from Vienna, it is a mandatory rite of passage for anyone who lives for EDM, techno, or hardstyle. Every July, this event colonizes the Salzburgring, a motor racing circuit in the Plainfeld valley. For three days, the usual alpine quiet is replaced by massive stage architecture, precision laser arrays, and low-end frequencies that rattle your ribs. It is a massive operation. We are talking 180,000 people from 70 different countries, yet it avoids feeling like a corporate machine. You can lose yourself in the Club Circus for techno or push your heart rate to the limit at the Hard Dance Valley. If you need a break from the 150 BPM assault, duck into the Almhütte for 90s hits and a cold beer in a traditional wooden hut. It is an essential summer experience for the Viennese crowd. Grab the free shuttle from Salzburg's main station and get ready for a weekend that makes most other festivals look like a quiet afternoon tea.
History
Revolution Event GmbH launched the first Electric Love Festival back in 2013. It started with 40 DJs and a modest crowd of 20,000 fans at the Salzburgring. It didn't stay small for long. By 2014, the numbers doubled, and it has since grown into the largest event of its kind in Austria. The festival had to pivot in 2021 with a tiny 10,000-person 'Boutique Edition' during the pandemic, but it returned to its full, massive scale immediately after. Organizers recently locked in the venue until at least 2030, ensuring the Salzburgring remains the home of the most famous Vienna music festival day trip for years to come.
The Music

The sonic variety here is staggering. Seven stages cover every niche from mainstream radio hits to the darkest underground techno. The Mainstage is the undisputed king. This is where heavy hitters like David Guetta and Armin van Buuren play to a sea of 50,000 people. Don't skip the Thursday night opening ceremony. It is a 16-minute blitz of live orchestras and choirs that somehow works perfectly with the pyro. For the bass heads, the Club Circus is a massive hangar that feels like a warehouse rave on steroids. If you want it faster and louder, the Hard Dance Valley and Shutdown Stage specialize in hardstyle and Frenchcore. But if you need a change of pace, the Heineken Starclub mixes in hip-hop. There is even the Almhütte, a two-story chalet that feels like an après-ski party in the middle of summer.
Camping & Practical Survival

Staying on-site means turning a cow pasture into your temporary home. Basic Camping is where the chaos happens (and where you'll make the most friends). If you have a van, Caravan Camping is your best bet, but book it early. It sells out fast. The festival is serious about its environment. You'll pay a €10 garbage deposit on your wristband, which you only get back if you return a full trash bag. It works. For a breather, take the shuttle to the ORGANICS Beach at Fuschlsee. You can swim in crystal-clear water, do some yoga, or just eat decent food away from the main stage noise. It is the only way to recharge before the sun goes down and the bass starts up again.
Getting There
Public Transport
Take the ÖBB Railjet or Westbahn train from Vienna Hauptbahnhof or Westbahnhof directly to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (approx. 2.5 hours). From Salzburg Hbf, take the official, free Electric Love shuttle bus directly to the Salzburgring entrance (approx. 25-30 minutes) .
By Car
Drive via the A1 Westautobahn from Vienna towards Salzburg, taking the exit for Thalgau or Mondsee. Extensive parking is available at the 'Salzburgring P' lots for roughly €20-30 for the weekend . Pre-book parking online.
By Taxi / Rideshare
A taxi from Salzburg city center or the train station to the venue costs approximately €45-€60. Uber is available but highly congested during peak entry/exit times . The official drop-off point is near the main gates.

Tips & What to Know
Buy early or pay the price. The Super Early Bird tickets drop in October and save you a fortune before the tiered pricing kicks in.
Forget the car. Take the Railjet from Vienna and jump on the free shuttle from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof. It is faster, cheaper, and lets you avoid the €30 parking fee.
Pack for four seasons. The alpine weather is unpredictable. You will want sunglasses at noon and a waterproof shell by midnight when the temperature dips.
Load your wristband before you arrive. The entire site is cashless. Use the ELF app to top up your credit so you aren't stuck in a queue while your favorite DJ is on.
Show up for the Thursday opener. Most festivals ramp up slowly, but this 16-minute pyro and orchestral show at the Mainstage is the highlight of the weekend.
