Currency Tips for Budapest
- Hungary uses the Hungarian Forint (HUF/Ft), not the Euro. Some tourist spots accept Euros but at terrible rates.
- Cards are widely accepted in restaurants, shops, and attractions. Smaller markets and some ruin bars may be cash-only.
- ATMs are everywhere. Use your bank's ATM partner network to avoid fees. Avoid exchange offices near tourist areas.
- Always pay in Forints, never Euros. If a card terminal asks "pay in your home currency?", select No (this is dynamic currency conversion with bad rates).
- Tipping: 10% at restaurants is standard. Round up for taxis. No need to tip at baths.
