Hotel Duo

The building is a big, grey slab of socialist modernism from 1971. It was built for scale. While other communist-era hotels were torn down, this one survived. They stripped the guts out of the Tower II block in 2020 and replaced them with sharp, modern interiors. From the outside, it looks like a pragmatic relic of the Cold War. But inside, it's a different story. You get 21st-century comfort hidden behind a wall of concrete.

Jan Horal started this. He was a WWII veteran who came back to Prague in 1994. He used the hotel to help soldiers who were treated badly under the old regime. Now his family runs the Jan Hotels group. They focus on being professional and keeping things green. The place has a Green Key certification to prove it. It is a family-run business on a massive scale.

The Well&Fit center is better than most public recreation spots. You have an 18-meter indoor pool and a fitness zone that stays open 24/7. If you want peace, go for 'calm swimming' in the early morning or late at night. There is also a traditional Finnish sauna and a steam room. They even have a private jacuzzi if you need to disappear for an hour. It is a major highlight for anyone staying at the property.

Most hotel spas are an afterthought. This one isn't. The Baan Thai center has 14 different treatments. They use heated herbs and traditional Thai pressure points. You can even book a 4 Hands massage where two people work at once. It is serious recovery. And it makes the hotel feel more like a resort than just a place to sleep. It is one of the best ways to relax in Prague 9.
