Museum of Sweets & Selfies

Lilla Gangel and Balázs Koltai started this venture in 2018. They came from a background in escape rooms and saw a gap in the European market for selfie-focused spaces. They opened the No. 1 Origin location on Paulay Ede utca in December of that year. It was the first dedicated selfie museum in Europe, beating many other major cities to the trend. The founders took some cues from the Museum of Ice Cream in the US but kept the style unique to Budapest. It was a massive hit right away. People wanted immersive experiences they could share online. The success was so fast that they opened a second, larger spot called No. 2 Bubbles on Rákóczi út. Since then, it has become a staple of the city's modern pop-culture scene.

The Origin location packs 15 themed zones into 400 square meters. Every room has its own color palette and props to keep your photos looking varied. You'll find the Strawberry Swing particularly popular, where you can sit among oversized hanging fruit. Then there is the Banana Rain room with its yellow and pink walls. It's a great spot for a tight portrait. The whole place is tactile. You don't just stand in front of the art (you live in it). The designers built these rooms with depth and perspective in mind. The props are solid enough to sit on or climb. And the staff frequently tweaks the small details. This keeps the experience fresh for repeat visitors and ensures your feed doesn't look like everyone else's.

The Sprinkle Pool is the big draw here. It is like a childhood ball pit but filled with thousands of plastic spheres that look like candy. It’s the most photographed spot in the building and surprisingly fun for adults too. But don't stop there. The Unicorn Room features life-sized fantasy creatures for your backdrop. The Mirror Room uses clever angles to create a kaleidoscopic effect that looks great on video. There is also an Alice in Wonderland tea party setup with cups that look like they're floating. Look out for the indoor beach sections with pink palm trees. They give off summer vibes even when Budapest is freezing outside. The lighting in every room is soft and flattering, so you won't need many filters.

The museum sits in a converted space in Terézváros. It's a clever use of 400 square meters that leads you through a maze of bright colors. The entrance feels like a candy shop where you can grab coffee and sweets after your session.
